Crowns and bridges in Chaitanyapuri, Hyderabad
Zirconia, all-ceramic and metal-ceramic crowns and bridges, made from a digital scan of your teeth and cleaned with Ivoclean before cementing.
Treatment at Sri Satya Sai Oral Health Center & Dental Clinic is given by Dr. D. Rama Raju, BDS, MDS, who has practised in Chaitanyapuri since 1999. Every treatment is explained, with its options and cost, before we begin.
Crowns and bridges: how it is done at our clinic
- The tooth is checked on an X-ray and, if needed, treated first (filling or root canal).
- The tooth is shaped under local anaesthesia, given with the anaesthesia booster.
- Where the gum covers the edge of the shaped tooth, it is gently moved back (with the electrosurgery unit where needed) so the scan picks up the edge exactly.
- A 3-D digital scan with the Runyes intra-oral scanner (no impression trays), and the shade is matched with photos.
- A temporary crown protects the tooth while the lab makes the final crown or bridge.
- The inside of the crown is cleaned and slightly roughened with the aluminium-oxide micro-blaster.
- Try-in to check fit, bite and shade.
- After try-in, the inside of the crown is cleaned with Ivoclean to remove saliva, so the cement bonds firmly.
- The crown is cemented and the bite is checked and adjusted.
Equipment used
- Intra-oral camera — Photos to match the shade
- Anaesthesia booster — Numbing before the tooth is shaped
- Runyes scanner — 3-D digital scan instead of an impression tray
- Micro-blaster — Cleans and roughens the inside of the crown so the cement holds firmly
- Ivoclean — Removes saliva left on the crown's bonding surface after try-in
- Electrosurgery unit — Moves the gum back from the edge of the tooth before the scan
Inlays and onlays (3-D printed): how it is done at our clinic
- The tooth is examined and X-rayed; an inlay or onlay is advised when a back tooth has a large filling or a broken cusp but enough healthy tooth to keep.
- The old filling and decay are removed and the tooth is shaped, keeping as much healthy tooth as possible (less than a crown needs).
- A 3-D digital scan of the prepared tooth and the opposite teeth with the Runyes intra-oral scanner, and the shade is matched.
- The inlay or onlay is designed on the computer and 3-D printed in the clinic on the ELEGOO Saturn 4 Ultra 16K in tooth-coloured dental resin, then washed and light-cured.
- Try-in to check the fit, the contacts with the next teeth and the bite.
- The bonding surface is cleaned with Ivoclean, the tooth is conditioned, and the inlay or onlay is bonded in place with adhesive cement.
- The bite is checked and adjusted (with the Teeth Tracer where needed) and the edges are polished.
Equipment used
- Digital X-ray (RVG) — Checks the decay and the old filling under the tooth
- Anaesthesia booster — Numbing before the tooth is prepared
- Runyes scanner — 3-D digital scan of the prepared tooth
- 3-D printer — Prints the inlay or onlay in the clinic
- Ivoclean — Cleans the bonding surface after try-in
- Teeth Tracer — Checks the bite on the new inlay or onlay
Clean and safe
Used instruments are soaked in disinfectant and cleaned. They are packed and sealed in sterilisation pouches with a colour-change indicator. The pouches go through a steam autoclave cycle; the indicator changes colour to show the cycle was complete. Pouches are opened in front of you, at the chair, for your treatment.
